Detroit, we’ve got an issue with aggressive Yellowjacket Wasps and we need your help!

WHY YELLOW JACKET TRAPS?
  • Traps use harmless natural pheromones to attract yellow jackets, but not bees.
  • Traps are effective if used from mid-May through September.
  • Traps help prevent yellow jacket large population growth.
  • Sprays are only effective on nests, which are hard to find.
  • Sprays only add ineffective but toxic chemicals to the air and don’t repel the yellow jackets.
YELLOW JACKETS ARE WASPS, NOT BEES!

We NEED Honey Bees to pollinate 90% of the fruits and vegetables we eat. The Mississippi State Extension (this is Federal Department of Agriculture info) has reliable information on how to tell the difference between Yellowjacket wasps and Honey bees here.

  • If it’s FUZZY, moving SLOWLY, on FLOWERS, it’s a BEE!
  • If it’s SMOOTH, moving FAST, after YOUR FOOD and DRINK, it’s a YELLOWJACKET!
HOW TO USE A DISPOSABLE YELLOW JACKET TRAP…

When the traps are full they should be placed into the garbage in a sealed bag! And replaced. Check out these quick videos for more information.

Rescue Disposable Wasp traps (that are safe for bees) are available at big-box and hardware stores for under $20.00. To be most effective, install them early May – June 1.
